The Quran's Own Claim: A Preserved Tablet
The University of Birmingham reports that Oxford dated the parchment to AD 568–645 at 95.4 percent confidence. Its leaves contain parts of Surahs 18–20. The date applies to parchment, not ink. This supports early writing alongside memorization.

For Comparison: The Bible's Earliest Complete Manuscripts
Codex Sinaiticus dates to the fourth century and preserves the earliest complete surviving New Testament. Vaticanus is another major fourth-century biblical codex, though parts are missing. Both are earlier in calendar time than the seventh-century Birmingham Quran leaves. The meaningful comparison is the interval from each text's origin to its surviving copies. Early fragments must be compared with fragments, and larger codices with larger codices. This prevents an unfair comparison while allowing the Quran's early manuscript evidence to be assessed on its own merits.
