The New Testament Case
These are serious texts. The Gospels also show Jesus praying. He says the Father is greater (John 14:28). He calls the Father “the only true God” (John 17:3). After the resurrection he says “my God and your God” (John 20:17). Christian theology joins these texts through the two-natures doctrine. Muslims ask whether that later framework is Jesus’ plain teaching.

[And mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary - distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah].

The Quranic Response
The Quran honors Jesus as Messiah, word from God, spirit by His command, and messenger (4:171). Both Jesus and Mary ate food (5:75). Jesus says, “I am the servant of Allah” (19:30).
The argument is direct. The Creator does not need a body, food, or sleep. A messenger can reveal God without being God. A miraculous birth shows God’s power. It does not make a created person divine (3:59).

سورة النساء · الآية ١٧١
O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, "Three"; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.
Quran 4:171

سورة المائدة · الآية ٧٥
The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger; [other] messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth. They both used to eat food. Look how We make clear to them the signs; then look how they are deluded.

How Christian Theology Explains It
This creates a question. Which nature explains each statement? Dependence is assigned to humanity. Exalted statements are assigned to divinity. Islam sees a later structure placed over Jesus’ simpler prophetic message.

Why Muslims Find the Doctrine Unconvincing
Calling the doctrine a mystery does not prove it. Belief about God should rest on clear revelation. The prophets called people to worship one God. Jesus prayed to that God. Tawhid preserves these direct teachings.
history
How the Doctrine Was Formulated
Christians see this as faithful clarification. Muslims see the disputes and extra-biblical terms as evidence that the doctrine was not an explicit creed preached by Jesus. History alone does not settle theology. It does challenge claims that the doctrine was simple and universally explicit.
