These histories do not alone decide truth. They clarify the claims: Islam presents preserved divine speech. Christianity presents inspired writings and God's fullest self-disclosure in Christ.

The Quranic Perspective: Revelation as Verbatim Speech
Muslims do not worship Muhammad or treat the Quran as his reflections. He recited and taught it. Its wording and authority belong to God. The text is therefore public: recited, memorized, and examined.
Key passages
Quran

The Biblical Perspective: Inspiration Through Human Authors, and the Word Made Flesh
Christianity places revelation supremely in Jesus. Hebrews 1:1-2 contrasts earlier prophecy with speech through the Son. John 1:14 presents the Word becoming flesh. Revelation is therefore book and person.
Fairly stated, Christianity does not claim Quran-style dictation for every sentence.

Two Models of Authority
interpretation
Common Misconceptions
"Human authorship makes the Bible worthless." Muslims believe earlier prophets received guidance. The question is present authority and transmission, not whether the text contains wisdom.
"Preservation alone proves divinity." Preservation gives access. Truth still requires examining message, coherence, history, and prophetic source.
"The Bible was dictated word for word." Most Christian traditions teach inspiration through human authors.

Frequently Asked Questions
A: Wahy is Arabic for divine revelation. Its central sense is God's verbatim Quranic wording delivered to Muhammad through Gabriel (Quran 42:51; 16:102).
Q: Did Muhammad write the Quran in his own words?
A: No. Muslims believe he received its exact wording from God. Quran 53:3-4 says he does not "speak from [his own] inclination" and that it is "a revelation revealed."
Q: If Jesus is ultimate revelation, does the Bible matter?
A: Yes. Scripture is "God-breathed" (2 Timothy 3:16). Jesus is "the Word made flesh" (John 1:14). Christian teaching treats the Bible as witness to him.
Q: Is hadith the same revelation as Quran?
A: No. The Quran is God's revealed wording and has a unique status in worship. Hadith report the Prophet's sayings, actions, and approvals. Hadith qudsi also report statements attributed to Allah through the Prophet, as in Sahih Muslim 2577a. Scholars discuss their wording and meaning, but they remain distinct from the Quran and are not recited as Quran in prayer. Each hadith's authenticity must also be assessed.
Q: Why compare Quran and Christianity?
A: It avoids treating Quran and Bible as identical roles. A closer comparison is Quran to Christ, each tradition's central point of contact with God. This is a comparative observation, not a claim about Christian self-understanding.
