Overview: The Apostle Who Never Met Jesus
scripture
Paul's Calling and Transformation
The transformation may have been sincere. Paul did not follow Jesus. A private vision cannot be checked like public teaching. His claims must be compared with Jesus' message.

The Theology of Grace and Faith
Christians disagree about faith and works. Islam teaches salvation through God's mercy, with faith shown by repentance, worship, and righteous action.

We maintain therefore that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.Romans 3:28

The Paul Question: Continuity or Innovation?
Defenders point to Jesus' predictions and Paul's claimed revelation. They also note that Paul's teaching on love, honesty, sexual morality, and love as fulfillment of the law agrees with Jesus' ethics. The dispute is faithful development or innovation.

Scholarly Consensus and Assessment
Their spread and canonization prove influence, not that every interpretation came from Jesus. Assessment requires comparison with Jesus' teaching and the Jerusalem disciples.

The Islamic Perspective on Paul and Theological Divergence
Paul makes the cross central to salvation. Quran 4:157-158 says Jesus' enemies did not kill or crucify him and that God raised him. Islam rejects inherited guilt: each soul answers for its choices, while forgiveness comes through repentance and God's mercy. If the Quran is revelation, it corrects atonement theology.
This does not mean Paul acted dishonestly or invented every belief. His letters preserve moral teaching and concern for communities. Yet a man who did not study under Jesus became Christianity's most influential interpreter. Islam calls people back to Jesus' prophetic worship of God.
Key passages
Quran
It is not for a human [prophet] that Allah should give him the Scripture and authority and prophethood and then he would say to the people, "Be servants to me rather than Allah," but [instead, he would say], "Be pious scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and because of what you have studied."
Quran 3:79

Quran
And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.
Quran 4:157
