Writing in Another’s Name in the Ancient World
2 Thessalonians 2:1–2 warns about a letter presented as apostolic. 3:17 gives a handwritten sign. Whether the letter is Pauline remains debated. The warning shows that false attribution was a real concern.

The Three Tiers of the Pauline Letters
The debate concerns vocabulary, style, church order, theology, and Paul’s known life. Conservative scholars cite coauthors, secretaries, changing topics, and a later ministry. The majority view matters. It remains a historical conclusion, not a mathematical proof.

The Case of 2 Peter: The Critical Argument
These arguments are serious, but not all are decisive. Style can change. Borrowing does not prove a late date. Richard Bauckham accepts a late first-century setting and reads the book as a literary testament. The critical case deserves attention. Its exact date and intention remain debated.
Key passage
Bible
Regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you; as also in all of his letters, speaking in them of these things. In those, there are some things that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they also do to the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.2 Peter 3:15-16

The Conservative Case for 2 Peter
2 Peter 1:16 presents its author as an eyewitness. Defenders accept this claim. Critics answer that pseudonymous works also use strong self-authentication. The defense deserves to be heard. It does not remove the reasons many specialists and early Christians hesitated.

An Islamic Lens: Writing a Text and Calling It God’s
The Quran was recited publicly. It was memorized and written during Muhammad’s life. It was collected soon after his death. It was standardized within the first Muslim generation. Quran 15:9 declares God’s protection. No Quranic book has a prophetic author rejected by most specialists.
Muslims also graded hadith. Scholars recorded chains. They studied narrators. They compared wording. They marked reports as authentic, weak, or fabricated. This separates the mass-transmitted Quran from reports needing individual authentication.
Key passages
Quran
So woe to those who write the "scripture" with their own hands, then say, "This is from Allah," in order to exchange it for a small price. Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for what they earn.
Quran 2:79

Quran
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَٰفِظُونَ
سورة الحجر · الآية ٩
Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian.
Quran 15:9

Where Each Tradition Locates Its Guaranteed Core
Islam places guaranteed scripture in one public Quran transmitted in the first generation. Hadith can be authoritative when authenticated. Individual reports can also be rejected without removing a Quranic verse. Muslims say the Quran’s mass recitation and early manuscripts support the compilation reports.
This does not prove every disputed Christian book false. It does show why the Islamic model gives clear public grounds for identifying revelation.
