Overview
Why Palestine Matters to Muslims
interpretation
A Blessed Sanctuary
The Prophet also named Al-Aqsa among the three mosques for which a special journey of worship is undertaken (Sahih al-Bukhari 1189). Sahih Muslim 525b records that the early Muslims faced Jerusalem in their prayer direction, or qiblah, for sixteen or seventeen months before it changed to the Kaaba. These texts, not a modern political slogan, are the foundation of Muslim love for Al-Aqsa. The detailed article on [Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa](/articles/jerusalem-and-al-aqsa) explains the narrations and sanctuary terms further.

Quran
Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
Quran 17:1

notes
Sacred Love Creates Human Responsibility
Quran 22:40 speaks of people driven from their homes and names monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques among places where God's name is remembered. The verse is not a modern legal ruling about Jerusalem. It gives a moral vision in which resisting wrongful expulsion and protecting worship are connected.

Quran
O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.
Quran 5:8

Quran
[They are] those who have been evicted from their homes without right - only because they say, "Our Lord is Allah." And were it not that Allah checks the people, some by means of others, there would have been demolished monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques in which the name of Allah is much mentioned. And Allah will surely support those who support Him. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.

A Dawah Shown Through Worship and Justice
This conduct invites people to see Islam not as a tribal identity but as worship of the one God expressed through mercy and moral responsibility.
